song
The purpose of the activity - Getting to know the elephant, the appearance, the way it walks, the color, through internalizing the weight and waltz, in movement in space.
The set of activities for ages 2-6:
about the song - The song was inspired by the melody of the elephant in the piece "Carnival of the Animals" by the composer: San Sans. There he took a happy waltz tune and reworked it into a waltz tune as heavy as the elephant.
at the meeting - We will show the children a doll of an elephant (you can also do a real show with a costume), we will talk about its characteristics, the elephant is heavy, walks slowly, its trunk and its uniqueness as a nose. We will tell the children about the rhythm of the waltz, a rhythm of 3/4, light and floating. What is the connection between the heavy elephant and the floating weight? We will work on the Huels rhythm, when we put the emphasis on the swing, less on the rhythm itself, which is more complex for children. It is also possible through a game - let's swing like the elephant, we will tap the Huels rhythm (with our hands or with the percussion instrument) and the children will swing according to the rhythm, We will sing the song to the children or recite the words, and demonstrate the dance movements, ourselves or with a doll.
in space - Let's dance to the tunes of the song swinging and slowly, just like an elephant.
in motion - Heavy and light, what happens to our body when it is heavy and what happens to it when it is light. We will walk in the room once this way and once that way.
with accessory - You can add an accessory that illustrates the elephant's trunk (such as a pipe, a noodle, etc.) or an accessory that simulates its thick legs.
in the game - Game of catch - the teacher is the heavy elephant trying to catch the young elephants. Philo who was "captured" returns to the scene.
A recommendation for a musical piece - The elephant - from the "Carnival of the Animals" - Camille Saint-Saëns
The lyrics -
A dancing elephant / lyrics and music: Vared Carmel, arrangement: Ariel Ma'oda, production: Daat
Dancing elephant, dancing elephant
swinging, swinging
Step here, step there
moving around all the time
he flaps his ears,
tail wagging
leg up
and the trunk above
Dancing elephant, dancing elephant
swinging, swinging
Step forward, back
And now stop
